Durdraw – ANSI art editor for Unix-like systems
- utternerd 7mo agoUnless someone forks this project, this is the final version. The author is serving a life sentence, so I cannot imagine he will update this ever again.

- roskoalexey 7mo agoWhat happened? I can't find any info
- utternerd 7mo agoIf I link to any articles about it, I dox him unfortunately and I'd prefer not to. I was friends with cmang from our pre-teen days, and we were both heavily involved in the ansi/ascii scene. I'm sure there's still some here who remember him from efnet, or other places.
- john_strinlai 7mo ago>If I link to any articles about it, I dox him unfortunately and I'd prefer not to. thats admirable, and i am certainly not telling you to do otherwise. but i will point out that they have written out their full name and state on their github, patreon, and buymeacoffee.

- Fnoord 7mo agoIf a programmer ends up in jail, it is kind of important to know why, so we can assess if we want to run/use their software. So without writing the details I found out, the alleged crime (if it is the same person) is a crime we as society disagree with, very much. But it isn't related to cybercrime in a sense where it can hurt this software project directly.

- utternerd 7mo agoI didn't notice that but you're correct, and that does change the calculus. In that case: https://www.mctxsheriff.org/news_detail_T6_R1333.php https://www.mctxsheriff.org/news_detail_T6_R1333.php
- owlninja 7mo agoThis certainly changes things...
- icecheese 7mo agoThat is not what he was charged with, and he was acquitted. I know him personally and he is a good guy, despite how this looks. Works hard to take care of his family, despite a severe disability, and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. I think you should remove this link and correct your comments.
- utternerd 7mo agoIt's a link from the sheriff's office, and I agree Sam is not a mean person. I've known him since childhood.
- reconnecting 7mo agoIt looks like public service website, but it returns `403 Forbidden` for EU IP address. Any ideas?

- icecheese 7mo agoThat's not true at all. I know him, too. He is offline, not in jail, but plans to be back online at some point. He was acquitted of the charges you referenced. The report you linked is also not accurate about the charges and circumstances. (Believe it or not, cops lie.)
- utternerd 7mo agoI hope you're right and the information I got was incorrect, we all want him back on the right path. He was found guilty previously for the same charge and did multiple years, so the reality is he did do this at one point, even if the latest charge was acquitted (I had not heard this yet, if it is true).
- icecheese 7mo agoI don't want to say too much out of respect for privacy, but the charge last year was for a probation issue, not related to the old charge. He was acquitted on the probation issue, and is at home today. Like I said, the sheriff dept decided to lie in their report, about pretty much everything. If someone told you he has a "life sentence," that was also a lie. I just saw him the other day at his home. I really hate to see these falsehoods repeated, especially since he isn't here to defend himself. I will tell him about this thread, though.
- themafia 7mo agoThe purest form of nostalgia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TheDraw https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TheDraw
- esseph 7mo agoTheDraw, ACiDDraw, I think ICE had ICEdraw? There were tons and a few of the bigger groups had their own ansi/hirez editors
- phlipski 7mo agoBrings back lots of good memories of my middle-school and high-school BBS DaYZ!
- kaddar 7mo agoI recently made an ASCII art web app: https://textmode.cadencecode.com/ https://textmode.cadencecode.com/ ... I occasionally make dos games as a hobby, and I wanted to be able to draw some ASCII on my iPad. Kinda a niche thing but open to feedback if anyone tries it.
- reconnecting 7mo agoActually, very cool editor. Perhaps only eraser is missing?
- kaddar 7mo agoOoh good point, -- Update: Added!
- reconnecting 7mo agoFantastic! Feels like your app will ruin my weekend.
- Fnoord 7mo agoBack when I still made ANSI art, a couple of UNIX Ansi art editors were around, but I used ACiDDraw [1] in (probably, don't remember) Dosbox. Kind of like I used hkSFV for a long, long time. No GUI utility came close, feature-wise. Although if you consider CLI, you can do scripting after download. - farcitizen 7mo agoLove this.. I was an ANSI Artist back in the day.. Was in <ACiD>, I knew it was a matter of time before AI would make Ansi's out of Photos.

- efnx 7mo agoAcid was great!
- johng 7mo agoI had an ACiD hat that I bought from their store around 1995 or 1996.. I wasn't in the group, I was in a much lesser known group and only did ASCII art. Never could get my ANSI stuff to look good but damn did I love that hat. It looked like this..... guess this cigar company ripped off their logo: https://www.cigarscity.com/cdn/shop/products/ACID-Black-Hat-2__52705_600x.jpg?v=1681502733 https://www.cigarscity.com/cdn/shop/products/ACID-Black-Hat-...
