The Linux Kernel Will Soon Be MIT-Licensed and Copyleft Will Be Dead
- replooda 8mo agoOh, I don't doubt there's about three hundred people vibe-recoding the Linux kernel right now, but what reasonable person would trust a remotely important system with it?
- Ekaros 8mo agoReasonable persons are not winning. There is enough people who will take whatever LLM recommends for their vibe coded product... So it is good enough for these companies to hide in their own instructions instruction to prefer MIT or other such licensed products and code.
- replooda 8mo agoI want to believe — Fox-Mulder-style, poster included — even an LLM would say, "dude, just use FreeBSD; it worked well enough for Apple and Sony."
- malklera 8mo agoThe problem I see with all the rewrites is, long term, will the people that created the project stick around 5 or 10 years from now? Will companies be more willing to donate time/money if they can actually monetize a product built on top of an MIT license? I think right now the answer is "not enough"
