I think this is mainly because of Apple's aggressive use of high quality displays in their iOS devices, competitors had to try to match or surpass them and the competition has given most phones really nice displays. Hopefully once "Retina" displays in the MacBook Pros become slightly more affordable this will have the same effect on the laptop market.
