Trump says US will have a role in choosing Iran's next leader

Somebody that's going to be great for the people, great for the country The US should be pushing for democratic elections. We don't like foreign non-interference in our own elections. Foreign interference in US elections for Trump from the likes of Internet Research Agency (Putin, Prigozhin) and SCL Group / Cambridge Analytica (Bannon, Mercer, Nix, Oakes) is offensive.
- verdverm 7mo agoHypocrisy is a core element of their game and it baffles me that so many go along, even promote it. How do we address this?

- jfengel 7mo agoEven "democratic elections" give a heavy thumb to those organizing the elections. If the US is helping design and implement the process, it means we're helping pick the winner. I suppose we're just as likely to leave it entirely up to them, and then act surprised that the most organized group is some al Qaeda offshoot, who proceeds to set up and then win a "democratic" election.

- chrisjj 7mo agoTrump could apply for Iranian citizenship then vote in the elections. Or bomb any elected leader he dislikes. I wonder which he'll pick.

- breppp 7mo agoLast time I checked there is a council of mullahs that elect the Supreme Leader, these mullahs might be elected, although from a very narrow kind of people (Islamic Jurists). But anyone who isn't of the type of mullah the government favors can and is disqualified from running. Thus it's a bit of a flexible definition of elections
