This is not a technical problem, is about money and people. Majority(>50%) of people have no idea what an OS is, you cannot expect then to care about self-hosting. People(me included) do what is easier/cheaper, maybe down the line there are principles or ideology in the decision making. I do not bother to read the complete article, by your actions you are a tenant/product, better lead by example.
