I agree, but to be truly foundational, it needs to be open source and accessible for everyone!
That’s why I’m working on an open source implementation of Mathematica (i.e. an Wolfram Language interpreter):

- wyan 8mo agoIsn't there already Maxima which is several decades old?
- mkl 8mo agoMaxima, Axiom, SymPy, and many more CAS systems exist. They don't run Mathematica code, so if that's your goal they don't help.
- yorwba 8mo agoIsn't most of the value of Mathematica in the standard library instead of the language?
- adius 8mo agoYes, definitely! So we also try to implement as much of it as possible. Currently we support over 900 functions of the 6000 from Mathematica!
- quantumdot42 8mo agoCall me when you have the upgoat/downgoat functions implemented :-)
- phkahler 8mo agoDoes that include symbolic math equivalent to that of Maxima?
- adius 7mo agoYes, definitely! This is one of Mathematica’s hallmark features and it would not be complete without it.
