I watched at Derbycon multiple times someone that could make a polygraph test do whatever he wanted, otherwise he was a murderer that murdered himself and it all happened before he was born. The test was being administered by a long time veteran polygraph operator who had recently retired.
- tptacek 8mo agoI don't know what that means, because a polygraph by design tells the polygrapher whatever they want it to.
- c22 8mo agoIf the demonstration was performed in some blinded protocol then perhaps there was more room for ambiguity in the results than usual.
- wedog6 8mo agoI believe it was the subject of the test who could make the polygraph reading show whatever they wanted, even though it was being administered by an experienced operator.
- the_af 8mo agoI think the point is that, since polygraph readings are pseudoscience, it's always the interrogator who picks what they "mean". If this is true, a smart test subject cannot mislead them, since there's nothing to mislead, as the polygraph is just a pressure technique and it means whatever the interrogator needs it to mean.
