Almost a decade ago GM Cruise made a big deal of rolling out in NY and had a garage there for a while, but they never got permission to test/operate their vehicles autonomously and eventually left. Dozens of cities would happily roll out the red carpet for a robotaxi service but, like Cruise, Waymo doesn't want dozens of other cities they want New York.
