I’m able to reach videos via my history but not getting anything on the front page.
chriscrisby 8mo ago
Now I have nothing

It is funny when your internet goes down (panic!)
jayknight 8mo ago
I'm currently sitting next to my son who is watching a Mark Rober video on youtube. But yeah, neither the web site or the app are loading anything right now. But I guess a stream in progress in unaffected.

And started over five hours ago.

Well that’s one way to go to bed on time :)
- bilekas 8mo ago
I can't sleep without something playing in the background.. Curse this habbit.
  - Bender 8mo ago
yt-dlp pulling down a handful of videos and playing them locally could help if using workstation or laptop then re-up them to phone if using a phone.
  - lysace 8mo ago
I discovered a particularly good genre for that: Zero narration mechanical manufacturing videos. E.g. from some Japanese paperclip/thumbtack factory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVxjy5pnlPY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVxjy5pnlPY

    Audiobooks?
ls612 8mo ago
I’ve been forcibly signed out from my Google account across all devices I think this may be their auth that went down.
gilbetron 8mo ago
I'm already, seriously, looking forward to the post-mortem. It kind of sucks when things break, but it is also really interesting to hear the gritty details. Hopefully they don't disappoint? Odds that is AI related?
- andrewinardeer 8mo ago
You think they'll release a post mortem publically?
- neo_doom 8mo ago
Same here... Having been on both sides of it, I much rather prefer reading about a post-mortem than writing one
- upmind 8mo ago
Same, I don't think I've ever noticed YouTube being down. (I'm sure it's been down in the past 10 years, I just haven't noticed it)
AlienRobot 8mo ago
The home feed of the website doesn't seem to be working for me, but individual channel pages are working, and videos are loading.
- d342 8mo ago
yeah same for me. just home page. they have a very big server driven UI response for a 5xx something went wrong try again page.
- mbilker 8mo ago
I concur. I can reach channel pages from my channel list on the home page even with the recommended videos not loading.
dpbriggs 8mo ago
Directly navigating to a channel works fine.

Videos are streaming but the quality seems to be low; on a few videos I checked, format 136 which is supposed to be 1080p is currently actually only 360p. Possibly a bandwidth problem.

FCC is really trying hard to stop that Talarico video.
dysoco 8mo ago
You can search and watch videos directly with no issue, but main feed and suggestions on the side of videos are not appearing. Really goes to show how much I depend on the algorithmic recommendations, I have no idea what to watch having to search manually. Usually my feed always has something that piques my interest. edit: back up
- kingstnap 8mo ago
Search on YouTube has been broken for at least 4 to 5 years. Some time back it used to find stuff. Now its just recommends shorts.
- KORraN 8mo ago
If you are subscribed to channels, I really recommend using Subscriptions instead of home page. Otherwise, you may miss videos from your favorite creators just because YT decided so.
seatac76 8mo ago
Interesting outage, I can play videos added to my playlists, but homepage is empty.
Freedom2 8mo ago
Interesting. I wonder what LeetCode hard they'll use to investigate and fix this issue.
proc0 8mo ago
Watch this be a bug added by some AI agent.
sharkytowers 8mo ago
I think it is an authorization issue? Thought it might be on my end... glad to have found this.

I mistakenly thought that YouTube hit a compatibility problem with my Firefox browser. The only breakage I could see was that the right sidebar of related/recommended videos disappeared. But I was watching several videos consecutively just fine. (I obtained video links from recent bookmarks, plus manually queued URLs of next videos to watch.)
