Back in the day, a GHC release had a bug that deleted source files with errors in them: https://gitlab.haskell.org/ghc/ghc/-/issues/163 https://gitlab.haskell.org/ghc/ghc/-/issues/163. Which is pretty harsh as diagnostics go.
