Why I'll never give up my DVD collection
- private_island 8mo agoAnd I still prefer my CDs and albums over streaming music, especially Amazon's crappy Prime music that decides to play Barbara Streisand while I'm trying to listen to a mix of John Mayer. I assume this is to get me to upgrade to the expensive unlimited subscription. Why bother when I already own most of what I truly like.
- xvxvx 8mo agoThere’s an ever-growing movement of physical media collectors online. They’re interesting to watch because they seem to buy pretty much anything. $80 for a 4K release of super-flop Tank Girl? Sure. It seems more of an obsession than simply buying the films you like. And they’re pretty defensive about it. One collector spent decades building a massive collection, and almost as long railing against streaming and claiming his physical collection would outlast Netflix… that was until his home burned down in the California wildfires last year.
- pestatije 8mo agothat teaches a lesson...keep a backup of physical media or subscribe to netflix
- vunderba 8mo agoI’m not particularly interested in building physical collections, but I have a great appreciation for physical media that’s aesthetically pleasing like the old big box PC games from the ’80s and ’90s. https://bigboxcollection.com/NerdWall https://bigboxcollection.com/NerdWall
