From my experience I had more success asking LLMs to compare three different sources and ask it to identify common themes. Then go over each source giving me direct quotes supporting the theme. For complex writing, I usually find it cannot decipher circular references or poorly organized writing. It tends to always think the point or argument is up front even when it is buried in the middle.
