It does in fact support gzip ( see: https://github.com/LearnBoost/socket.io/wiki/Configuring-Socket.IO https://github.com/LearnBoost/socket.io/wiki/Configuring-Soc... ), but there's an outstanding issue with spawning the gzip process ( see: https://github.com/LearnBoost/socket.io/issues/932#issuecomment-6850772 https://github.com/LearnBoost/socket.io/issues/932#issuecomm... ).
This should be fixed in the upcoming update to zlib.
