Why zulip instead of the good ol' IRC?
- orblivion 8mo agoIt has modern features. It stores message history. It has a fairly unique feature of letting you create ad-hoc "topics" (that go under a "Channel") that make it easier to manage the flood of conversation.
- crabmusket 8mo agoChannels + topics >>> just channels
- ThePowerOfFuet 8mo ago1: IRC loses all messages to you while you are not connected
- 3836293648 8mo agoNot for years. If that is still the case for you, ask your server hosts to update to a version that supports ircv3
- theandrewbailey 8mo agohttps://ircv3.net/specs/extensions/chathistory https://ircv3.net/specs/extensions/chathistory says hi
- d3Xt3r 8mo agoKnow of a good IRCv3 client for Linux/Web/Android? And what are some good v3 servers these days, besides Libera?
- theandrewbailey 8mo agoI've set up Ergo and KiwiIRC before, and it seemed pretty cool. I even enabled the Jitsi plugin in KiwiIRC, so it was like an indie alternative to Slack or Teams. I turned it off years ago, but if I were to do that again, I might try with UnrealIRCd.
- rockskon 8mo agoLast I checked, IRC wasn't really mobile-friendly.
