Why do we always have to make everything political? Software shouldn't be political.
- fsflover 9mo agoFree and open-source software is by definition about the users' rights. Fighting for rights can't be non-political.
- cyanydeez 9mo agoThe atom bomb wasn't built because people loved nuclear technology. Software is a choice and select software isnt neutral. Anything people choose to make is political when, like the atom bomb, it conveys power. Go ahead, announce how you have an atom bomb then tell people its an apolitical tool!
- GuestFAUniverse 9mo agoUnder which rock are you hiding? Sounds nice and comfy there, can I hide there too? /S
- blell 9mo agoPeople generally say that, but then they shove their politics in our faces whenever they have the opportunity.
- general1465 9mo agoYou may not care about politics, but politics care about you. Russians on the frontlines are pinnacle of "I don't care about politics".
- sylens 9mo agoThe article quite literally spells out how laughable a take this is
- soulofmischief 9mo agoPolitics are what led me to this passion. Politics and software development, right to repair, etc. are deeply connected.
- gray_charger 9mo agoI disagree with the words you've chosen, but I think others are missing the sentiment. Most of us understand there is a level of politics involved in making free software. The problem many software communities are facing is unnecessary purity tests. The mission of the GNOME desktop environment does not include protesting U.S. I.C.E. enforcement.
- estimator7292 9mo agoThis exact phrase is literally a meme
- popalchemist 9mo agoImmature take. Everything is political, or everything is affected by politics. If you say "we shouldn't discuss politics in _____ space" then you are simply supporting the status quo. In this case, the status quo is fascis/nazi takeover of the biggest superpower (technologically, economically, and militarily) in the world, and as the article says, that is having direct effects on software. So it is political whether you "make it" that way or not. AKA whether you want to be an adult about it, or not.
