- paulryanrogers 8mo agoUS has token eye exams at the BMV. I've never seen or heard anyone fail. During such a test that I could barely read anything, and afterwards realized I could not read most roadsigns--having relied too much on map apps. A visit to the eye doctor confirmed I shouldn't be driving, so I ordered glasses that same day. Reporting unsafe drivers in my state is not anonymous. And at one point I had to tell a family member that if I found out they were still driving that I'd report them. (They had 3 accidents in 2 years, claiming it's all the computers in the cars.)
- jpc0 8mo agoSome more context on the South African system, although before it was done at our equivalent to the DMV it now gets done by an optometrist.
- beAbU 8mo agoI think you can still do it at the 'DMV', this was possible last time I renewed my license about 3 years ago (I don't live in SA anymore tho). But the eye test machines often broken, so the advice was always to get the test done at an optometrist and they fill out a special form that you take with you when renewing your license.
- jpc0 8mo agoFor context now you need to make a booking at a specific department and must take an eye test with
- xboxnolifes 8mo agoWhen i first got my driver's license in the US I almost failed my eye exam. They gave me 3 chances and I just barely passed on the third. This led to me finally getting glasses.
