China to ban hidden car door handles on all EVs over crash safety concerns
- tempestn 8mo agoI do wonder if the handle shown in the article's image (from a Model 3 or Y) would actually fall under the ban though. It's flush, but it's fully mechanical and externally operated.
- n1b0m 8mo agoIf power fails, the handles may not function properly, requiring manual override procedures. There are hidden manual releases inside, but they can be hard to locate.
- tempestn 8mo agoI know that's true on a Model S or X, but is it the case on the 3 and Y as well? Those exterior handles seem mechanical (but I could certainly be wrong).
- n1b0m 8mo agoWhile the handle movement is mechanical, the actual latch release is still electrically triggered when you pull the handle to open the door.
