- nis0s 8mo agoSomeone did the cost benefit analysis and determined that staying in power for the moment takes precedence over aligning with the U.S. Constitution. To such people, the constitution may as well be toilet paper.
- y0eswddl 8mo agoit always cracks me up how we love to treat random pieces of paper with ink sprinkled across them as some sort of material cosmological constant. as explained in that wonderful d20 clip... the only laws or rights that exist are those for which other people are willing to commit violence to uphold. aka a law isn't real if no one enforces it. there's nothing universal about law - it is merely a threat from a powerful group to a weaker one to enforce desired behaviors.
- nis0s 8mo agoIt depends on what schools of thought one subscribes to. There is a lot of nuance to the development of human behavior and culture, and so the way we interact is based on more than just the brutishness of might is right.
- xenospn 8mo agoThey treat it like religion. Take the parts you like, ignore what makes you uncomfortable.
- nis0s 8mo agoReligion has always been about politics to some extent, and I don’t put much stock in religious institutions by themselves. The underlying philosophical frameworks are often useful for individual or collective reasoning, and for dealing with uncertainty. But these frameworks become anti-social when they’re used to justify political extremism.
