As I said in another thread, I think the most valuable thing was that I was going for a system I am going to use as a daily driver (and then I did so throughout): VM gets you the safety that lets your focus wander, and you will, IMHO, miss out! And no scripts either: back then it was typing everything in, and docs were a bit outdated so it was either trial and error or my typos that required you to stay on your toes.
