What AI have you been using for 5 years of coding?

- ashirviskas 9mo agoIt is only 4 years old
- dkdcio 9mo agotechnical preview in June 2021. I was using it for a bit before that as an internal employee. so they may have rounded up slightly or also were an internal beta test side note, I’ve been trying to remember when it launched internally if anybody knows. I feel like it was pre-COVID, but that’s a long timeline from internal use to public preview
- SilenN 9mo agoYes, the technical preview of Github Copilot. I rounded up.
- dkdcio 9mo agofair enough! the jump from that to ChatGPT’s launch (which I didn’t find that interesting), to gpt-4, to Claude Code/Codex CLI, to Gemini 3/Opus 4.5/GPT 5.2 has been insane in such a short time. - varispeed 9mo agoIf AI can 10x then that's 50 years worth of development. Likely OP has developed a UNIX like operating system, is my guess.

- darkwater 9mo ago10x in personal branding position for sure. 5 years of AI usage by rounding up a 4 years-something, where the first 2 were really a glorified autocomplete and top 0.01% of something something.

- mkozlows 9mo agoGithub Copilot was available in 2021, believe it or not. It was just auto-complete plus a chat window, but it seemed like a big deal at the time.

- philipwhiuk 9mo agoIf auto-complete is AI coding then I've been doing it since 2001.
- NewJazz 9mo agoMore importantly: what software of value have they produced in that time? I glanced around their site, just saw a bunch of teaching materials about Ai.
