At least all expensive laptops of the last 5 years or so seem to have really nice headphone outputs. 10ish years ago, Thinkpads even had bad sound quality on that (but Dell Latitudes were great). I now have a laptop that supposedly has some of the best speakers on a non-Apple laptop, but guess what, it's a laptop, so it can't possibly reproduce even moderately low frequencies well. So, eh, the emergency sound option is less crap. I don't care too much.
