My go-to line is: “Excuse me, do you have any earphones?”

- c22 9mo agoThis attitude is what brings the conflict from healthy compromise of competing goals to unproductive power struggle. Why is it so important to you that other people's use of public space is subservient to your own? If I am on a bus or something I have asked other people to turn their audio down, but most other places it's easy enough for me to just move somewhere else.
