Police chief apologises after AI error used to justify Maccabi Tel Aviv ban
- chrisjj 10mo agoTrue title: West Midlands police chief apologises after AI error used to justify Maccabi Tel Aviv ban
- raverbashing 10mo ago"AI Error" couldn't be further from the truth
- chrisjj 10mo agoIy is worth noting the apology wasn't for presenting the erroneous info from the "AI",or even for using the "AI". It was for falsely denying use of "AI". https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c394zlr8e12t https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c394zlr8e12t
- raverbashing 10mo agoAh now I see. > "The summation in the House—it was a question that was asked in the House—was that West Midlands Police may have used AI on this particular occasion. We do not use AI. As for the real reason: > Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said West Midlands Police had "capitulated to Islamists" in the decision to ban Israeli fans. > She said the force "knew extremists were planning to attack Jews for going to a football match, and their response was to blame and remove Jewish people instead".
- ndsipa_pomu 10mo agoHe needs to go - he lied to MPs by denying that they use A.I. and now he's been caught out. We need accountability for decisions and if a senior person is asked questions by MPs, then they need to be as truthful as possible. This kind of misrepresentation was used by the Post Office to gaslight MPs.
- chrisjj 10mo agoAgreed. Referring to West Midlands Police previously denying the use of AI in its report, Timothy posts on X: "They didn't just deny it to the home affairs committee. They denied it in FOI (Freedom of Information) requests. "They said they have no AI policy. So officers are using a new, unreliable technology for sensitive purposes without training or rules." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c394zlr8e12t https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c394zlr8e12t
