- piltdownman 9mo agoNonsense. • There is ongoing discussion in the Irish parliament and policy circles about setting a digital age of consent or minimum age (e.g. 16) for social media access. This debate is driven by concern over youth wellbeing, although no formal law has yet been enacted. https://avpassociation.com/ireland/ https://avpassociation.com/ireland/
- gregbot 9mo ago>This debate is driven by concern over youth wellbeing I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you if you actually think thats what is motivating this
- foo70 9mo agowhat do you think is motivating this? Do you really think that protecting our children from the garbage on these platforms is contrary to free speech? The fact is that these platforms are run for profit. They are not fit for purpose if they can be exploited to exploit children, and, for that matter to facilitate unelected billionaires to overthrow elected democracies.
- extraduder_ire 9mo agoThere is an age verification law in Ireland they might be referring to, but it only applies to companies which operate from here and not ones which simply allow Irish residents to access them. Notably including "X international unlimited company". Not Reddit though, they technically operate from the Netherlands despite having a presence in Dublin.
- BoxOfRain 9mo ago> Ireland is just a copy of the UK That's certainly a geopolitically contentious take if I've ever seen one.
