People are locked in. It's not easy to switch to another product. Even if someone is willing the pay the price for another system and pay to have the data moved and apps repurchased, they now have to learn a new OS.
- cadamsdotcom 9mo agoBut that’s the thing, why is it this way? Driving a Hyundai or a Toyota you wouldn’t notice the difference, but learning a new OS is so hard that people don’t do it. I wish the ergonomics would be more standard so switching costs aren’t so high.
- timbit42 9mo agoBecause it benefits the tech companies to make their user interface different enough to make it difficult to relearn another one. There are no official standards like there are for the vehicle user interface.
- cadamsdotcom 9mo agoVehicles don’t have an official standard, just a de facto one. If someone invented a superior way to control a vehicle everyone else would adopt it. But things have settled I guess. I guess the set of inputs to a car is smaller than a computer..
