Beijing and the Provinces: Geographic Disparities Among CCP Elites
- aebtebeten 9mo agoam I reading this correctly? Shandong is the Wyoming of the PRC, and Sichuan is the California?
- gsf_emergency_6 9mo agoGuangdong is CA, Sichuan is.. OH? Shandong is.. WV https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guangdong%E2%80%93Hong_Kong%E2%80%93Macao_Greater_Bay_Area https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guangdong%E2%80%93Hong_Kong%E2...
- aebtebeten 9mo ago=.= not sure if WV has anything like Jinan or Quingdao? when I think WV, I think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9eHp7JJgq8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9eHp7JJgq8, so ... Shanxi? (I'd been basing my assignments on over/under representation, eg https://www.thegreenpapers.com/Census10/FedRep.phtml?sort=Elec#table https://www.thegreenpapers.com/Census10/FedRep.phtml?sort=El... , not culturally)
- gsf_emergency_6 9mo agoShenandoah Germans? Chose WV over DE/RI from here: https://old.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/1f8d9th/how_many_electoral_votes_every_state_would/ https://old.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/1f8d9th/how_many_e...
- aebtebeten 9mo agoShenandoah Germans, if you look at the river itself, were in west Virginia (a valley away from Charlottesville), not West Virginia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shenandoah_Germans#/media/File:Shenandoah_watershed.png https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shenandoah_Germans#/media/File... lagniappe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVz_IJoyO6Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVz_IJoyO6Y EDIT: as to the claim of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shenandoah_Germans#/media/File:Welcome_to_Singers_Glen.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shenandoah_Germans#/media/File... , I was more into the klezmer stage at Jazz Fest than the gospel tent, so I can't say, but think there may be one or two similarities, eg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLTLlGCknUw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLTLlGCknUw doesn't strongly resemble https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYH4K1eR118 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYH4K1eR118 , but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nQPlvT9U5c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nQPlvT9U5c does resemble https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4Vl_ujSQ3Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4Vl_ujSQ3Q (I think the idea was dance tempos were of the flesh but slower tempos were of the soul?) FUN FACT: I think we get the phrase "to park a car" from the horse and buggy days; you'd put your car(riage)s out in the park (meadow).
- gsf_emergency_6 9mo agoeec would concede that poetry has the licence so statistics doesn't? https://www.caliper.com/featured-maps/maptitude-german-ancestry-county-map.jpg https://www.caliper.com/featured-maps/maptitude-german-ances... (Pendleton County) ReDM is all about Buxton-sync-practice? I meant that, e.g., both (/some) losers and psychos are liable for narcissism, while clueless block the sync. (Update: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46532128 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46532128) Re SY-S "triad"(not triads, see below)/FCF flamegrills: "the Right Stuff" in its essence would be the rare confluence of paradoxical traits, dharmic orgs (which, indeed certain um, armed tools of _the_ hegemon are-- tho not the ones they fully control) would be setup to go through the pop like a comb (or baleen, to use a submarine metaphor) (I meant that flamewars might be good for picking up some stragglers missed by the comb) This explains why universal conscription is probably necessary for a sustainable democracy (to echo the "propagandistic" sci-fi of a Navy man (USNA 1929)) (At the very least, LGBTQ would have firearms or handheld(food) awareness) (Not to forget that soldiers in touch with the citizenry are more liable to switch sides https://www.iconnectblog.com/the-professional-duty-to-resist-unlawful-orders-the-hidden-heroes-of-south-koreas-martial-law-crisis/ https://www.iconnectblog.com/the-professional-duty-to-resist... Couldn't find the Type 56 video that told the story so I'll just point out the regional PLA vs Red Guards CR standoff for contrast Edit: https://youtu.be/qgAFK8m2_bY https://youtu.be/qgAFK8m2_bY )
- aebtebeten 9mo agoPendleton: probably mostly due to a low overall population, but I must admit the karst and the panorama would've made them feel right at home: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pendleton_County,_West_Virginia#/media/File:GermanyValley.wmg.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pendleton_County,_West_Virgini... Whoah. Just started Type 56[0]; no wonder people were so uptight about "don't trust anyone over 30" — put in the CR context it sounds much more inflammatory than in the context I had had hearing it; that would explain the buckshot at Berkeley. (I guess one strong advantage of going to one of the Haidian Unis would be that the student population there can undoubtedly demonstrate with relative impunity; after all Mr. Chen will be on their side?) Does 中共中央马克思共产主义学校 sell merch? I think I might be tempted to order a container load of "Party School of the Central Committee..." T-shirts; if the slang in the States hasn't changed they'd probably go like hotcakes there! I'm pretty sure the triads in Operation Magpie/Finch [I can believe finches eat mantises, but magpies are great at theft] weren't deadheading[1]; wonder what they took out on the HK-PRC leg? (payment doesn't make sense, as many goods are valuable yet small and light... crypto is about as small and light as one can get; does it even obviate the need to wash money?) Also on the to-read list: Edmund Wilson's criticism of Ernest Hemingway; maybe I just bounced off the ad-copy vibe of his style? [0] I've always heard stories like we use such and such so the enemy can't use our stores, but it seems that everyone: Oceania, (Eu)Rasia, and EastAsia, has standardised on 7,62? [1] People are saying: Thing is, when you have a perfectly set up system for smuggling something out, why not smuggle something in as well?
