Why most Gumroad alternatives fail

- Barathkanna 9mo agoGumroad isn’t winning on features, it’s winning on boring infrastructure. Payments, taxes, refunds, and trust are the real moat, and most alternatives underestimate how hard those are to get right.
- bopoku579 9mo agoI agree. The infrastructure side is much harder than it looks from the outside, and Gumroad deserves credit for making that boring stuff invisible. What surprised me was how often alternatives focus on surface-level features while assuming payments, refunds, taxes, and trust are “solved” just because Stripe exists. In practice, those details are where a lot of user pain shows up. I’m curious which parts of that stack you’ve seen trip people up the most.
- bopoku579 9mo agoI’m the author. This came out of trying to build a Gumroad alternative and realizing most of the hard problems weren’t technical. I’m still figuring this out and would genuinely love to hear what actually worked for people who’ve sold digital products.
