Doom II is possibly my favorite game of all time. In the early-mid 2000s there was a pretty active multiplayer scene around a port called ZDaemon[1] and another called Skulltag. Conplete with a GameSpy-like client for finding and joining servers, new modes of play like CTF and monthly tournaments.
