Alpine used to leave performance on the table by default. Something to do with the compiler having a lot of safe options and not using some CPU extensions at the time. Don’t know whether it is the case anymore, but it’s something I proved in the past and then engineering deployed minimal Debian instead because it ended up being cheaper.
