Both of these things can be true:
- Google, the company, is doing pretty well in the stock market.
- Google, the advertising company, isn't generating good ROI for its advertising customers.
From Google's point of view, they've been very gunshy about having ads be their only revenue stream for years; I wouldn't be surprised that the consequence is the value there is drying up.

- InsideOutSanta 9mo agoAdvertising revenue being up is also consistent with the linked article, since the writer had to increase ad spend to get any results before giving up entirely.
- emodendroket 9mo agoIt's also not broken out -- for instance, if people move to advertising on YouTube instead of AdWords that's still revenue for Google.
