So explicitly calling for violence, not just "posting a political opinion" like so many people are claiming.
- llmslave2 10mo agoIf that comment meets the bar for "explicitly calling for violence", tens of Hackernews posters would be getting arrested daily for how they talk about billionaires. AOC should avoid travel to the UK because her "eat the rich" rhetoric is an explicit call for violence under this standard. Etc etc.
- thunderfork 10mo agobillionaires aren't a protected class in the UK (yet), afaik
- llmslave2 9mo agoNeither are politicians or immigrants at large so I'm not sure how that's relevant.
- immibis 9mo agoYes, that's correct. Have you tried reporting them to the police? If they're in the UK, they can be prosecuted.
- llmslave2 9mo agoNo I haven't tried reporting them to the police because A) it's not illegal speech and B) I'm not a loser
- immibis 9mo agoUh, it is illegal. That's why people get arrested and convicted for it.
- llmslave2 9mo agoNo, what they've done is create a low and unclear bar for what constitutes criminal speech, which allows the police and judges to apply the law selectively. So yeah maybe technically it's illegal but you won't get arrested for saying "eat the rich".
- immibis 9mo agoIsn't every law applied selectively? Murder is one of the most serious and uncontroversial laws, yet ICE officers murder black people with impunity.
