Most physicists still believe that the speed of light is a universal speed limit which means that even if life does exist elsewhere in the universe we will never see it. The furthest we will reach before our civilization destroys itself will be the next star system over, and that’s if we start working on it today and invest a significant portion of our resources into it. Neither of which seem likely.
