Remember, Hacker News posters were wildly in favor of banning the discussion of the Lab Leak theory. Only a few spoke out against such bans and they were commonly met with floods of downvotes. There's lots of support in this community for controlling access to information and shaping narratives as long as it conforms to their particular ideology.
- vablings 10mo agoThere is a difference between something being banned and preventing the spread of inaccuracies or misinformation (without suppressing any information) It is well accepted that the lab-leak theory is highly improbable, and all of the evidence is that it came from the wet markets.
- IAmBroom 10mo agoSelf-curation and banning by an authority are completely different topics.
