Personally, I recommend running a "friends and family" test prior to the launch. Get some people you know to come in (perhaps bring their laptops) and all log on and use the system for an hour. Ask them to try to crash it. It won't simulate 100 users (unless you have LOTS of friends), but it WILL catch some things that load-test scripts won't catch.
