I completely agree, the excuse for non-open hardware always used to be that the sim/cellular modem needed to be a blackbox/binary blob. I'm wondering now with the prevelance of wifi calling/eSim/mobile data plans if that's even the case anymore. we have several phones that have even BEEN open-source hw afaik, like Librem and pinephone.
