I thought it already was, before Trump. I still can't believe they ended de minimus and tariffed everything.

Every administration since at least Bush jr slapped tariffs on a few things here and there, and mostly kept the previous admin's ad hoc tariffs in place. In more practical places, like Singapore where I live, you'd be right: tariffs are by and large unthinkable.
