I took a gap year and joined the Americorps NCCC. I spent the year volunteering all across the Southern states and served with people ages 18-24 from across the country on construction and education projects. It was a great way to expand my limited understanding of the world and gain confidence. Had I gone straight to college I would have missed out on a lot of learning. I think gap years are a great idea but recommend doing something interesting, productive or useful for yourself or others.
