I have many cherished memories of playing with the 555 timer. It was what drove me to learn how to hack PICs, and then the Arduino. After that came the mini2440, and the fun never really stopped. I built the siren described by a fellow hacker below, annoying my then girlfriend (and now wife) to no end with it. Then I built some fun strobe lights with LEDs. All for a couple of bucks, and available at the local Radio Shack. I still have a couple of them laying around, and some PIC 16F84 too. Fun times. RIP fellow hacker.
