This is true, but the same applies to any technology. I grew up taking central heating, TV and electric lighting completely for granted, but a few decades prior to that those were wonder inspiring inventions and people would have recounted tales about their first television set or the first time they had light bulbs installed. Mass electrification didn't really arrive until the middle of the 20th century.
