Everyone likes to hate on Dollar General but they made a little over $1 billion in profit on a little over $40 billion of goods sold which is a 2.7% profit margin. In terms of real value delivered to customers it's really hard to beat that. Kroger by comparison is 1.8%. In both cases we're talking about less than 3 cents of profit per dollar.
- ZeroGravitas 10mo agoSlightly worrying that there's two comments replying to an article about deliberate overcharging of consumers with responses about how profitable that is for them.
- Spivak 10mo agoI mean the answer is "not very profitable." They're making less profit as a percentage of revenue than Costco. They absolutely should do better at updating the tags on their shelves but they're less making it rain and more getting pelted with pennies.
