How do you keep up with AI/crypto/markets without drowning in noise?
I’m struggling with the usual problem: trying to stay up to date on AI, crypto, and markets without turning it into a part-time job.
Right now my inputs are a mix of newsletters, X/Twitter, podcasts, YouTube, and random links in group chats. It works… but it feels like I’m doom-scrolling “updates” more than actually understanding what matters.
I’m curious how people here handle this:
What does your actual weekly workflow look like to stay current?
Are there 1–2 sources you truly rely on (for AI / for crypto / for markets)?
Do you lean more on long-form (articles, reports) or short-form (briefs, dashboards, emails)?
Anything you’ve tried that didn’t work?
I’ve been experimenting with a very opinionated “one-minute weekly brief” + podcast at vasper.io, but I’m mostly interested in how HN readers think about information overload and what a useful setup looks like.
Would love to hear concrete routines, tools, and examples.
- cromka 10mo agoHN itself? Sort by most popular once a week on Sunday?
- alex-vasper 10mo agoThis is kind of what I want my life to look like: one pass over “top HN this week” and call it a day. Do you literally just sort by most popular for the week and read down until you’re bored, or do you filter by tags (AI/crypto/markets) as well? I’ve found HN to be very good at surfacing conceptual/long-term AI stuff, but less so for day-to-day market moves or crypto micro-news, which is partly what pushed me into this multi-source mess in the first place. Maybe the real answer is: HN for “what matters over months/years,” and accept that you’ll always be late on the daily noise.
- cromka 10mo agoI don't follow crypto, HN does the job for me for all other news and I use it the way you described.
- alex-vasper 10mo agoGot it.
- JimmyBuckets 10mo agoFor crypto there are some great telegram groups that aggregate stories into a feed: e.g. https://t.me/onecryptofeed https://t.me/onecryptofeed
- alex-vasper 10mo agoThanks for the link — had not seen that specific channel before. The Telegram “meta-feeds” are an interesting middle ground: still firehose-ish, but at least someone has done a first pass on what’s worth surfacing. Do you treat that as your primary intake and then go deeper on a few stories, or is it more of a background stream you dip into when you have time? I’m trying to move from “always-on feed” to “a couple of intentional check-ins per week,” so I’m curious how people avoid turning these feeds into just another scrolling habit.
- JimmyBuckets 10mo agoYeah I usually dip in when I want to look at the space. But I am trying to include a more regular scan of the headlines to keep abreast of whats happening.
- alex-vasper 10mo agoMakes sense.
- farouk_999 10mo agoI feel you keeping up without drowning in noise is tough. I try to focus on 2–3 high-signal sources for AI and crypto, then use tools to filter the rest. For memecoins and Telegram trading, I’ve been using FDV bots to automatically track pumps and highlight what’s actually moving saves a ton of manual scrolling and lets me focus on analysis instead of hunting for signals.
- alex-vasper 10mo agoInteresting that FDV bots are useful for you; Do you feel like that skews you toward short-term trades vs longer-term, or do you layer your own fundamentals on top? The hard part is resisting the urge to go back into Discord/Telegram/X and second-guess those choices.

- cjbenedikt 10mo agoWalk away. Wait for the crash. Return to focus on the surviors.
- alex-vasper 10mo agoThis is probably the sanest answer in the thread :) The tricky part for me is that I’m trying to design a workflow that keeps me informed enough to spot the survivors while not burning all my time on the tourist phase of the cycle. Curious how you personally handle it in practice: do you genuinely ignore the space until things blow up, or do you keep a minimal pulse (e.g., a couple of trusted sources) and just refuse to engage with the day-to-day hype?
- cjbenedikt 10mo agoGood question. Personally I mostly scan headlines. From time to time I read articles from the FT or Bloomberg or similar trusted sources.
- alex-vasper 10mo agoMakes sense!
