Cara Hunter on the deepfake video that nearly ended her political career
- lalassu 11mo agoI think the future of videos as a source of truth is bleak. You can't trust anything that you can see in a video. And you can deny any video. I think this will make an interesting post-truth world. What will happen when we can't almost prove anything. Eye witnesses are untrust worthy. Videos ditto. Cryptographic proof? Will politician sign their videos and messages with their public keys?
- econ 11mo agoLet's also do biometric based cryptography so that just having the key or looking like them isn't enough.
- weinzierl 11mo agoImages could be doctored convincingly at least since the 1920s and yet people used "pics or it didn't happen" unironically nearly 100 years later. Video will not be different. People believe what they want to believe and will never let get truth in their way.
- more_corn 11mo agoThat should 100% be illegal everywhere.
- bitwize 11mo agoIt should be a registerable offense to create deepfake sexual content of someone without their consent. Let them live under the bridge with the chomos.
