Comparing FreeBSD with paid RedHat is a bit of a tilted comparison. The vast majority of Linux deployments do not use paid RedHat and do not get that kind of extreme backporting of security fixes.
- Gud 11mo agoStill, that option exists, and doesn’t for FreeBSD. FWIW I switched from Debian to FreeBSD 25 years ago as my main OS.
- lmm 11mo ago> Still, that option exists Yes and no. If you get yourself into a position where you have servers deployed on version x.y of whatever Linux distribution you went with and now can't or won't upgrade from that, the vast majority of the time you're going to be exactly as stuck as if you were on FreeBSD. If you wanted to benefit from paid RedHat backports you had to decide to deploy your application to LTS RedHat on day 1, and the vast majority of people don't.
