George Hotz: Replacing My MacBook
- arresin 11mo agoI would like to move off iPhone also but there is no viable alternative that isn’t worse. > If someone makes one of these in a nice 16” form factor, OLED screen, aluminium unibody, no stupid branding everywhere, I think it might be time for a lot of developers to switch. 1000%
- fabiensanglard 11mo agoThe battery life is what keeps me going back to my MacBook Pro every time I try to switch to a Linux laptop. From what I understand, almost all linux problems in this area are firmware/driver shortcoming. So, in theory, could the Framework laptop rival Apple? They are built from the ground up to run Linux so I assume they have access to the firmware or at least can request features from vendors?
- xenospn 11mo agoThat’s like saying “all of Somalia’s problems are people-based, so in theory, it could be like Japan”.
- znpy 11mo ago> So, in theory, could the Framework laptop rival Apple? Yes in theory. Btw it seems that Framework has open sourced their embedded driver firmware source code: - https://frame.work/it/en/blog/open-sourcing-our-firmware https://frame.work/it/en/blog/open-sourcing-our-firmware - https://github.com/FrameworkComputer/EmbeddedController https://github.com/FrameworkComputer/EmbeddedController So again, in theory there could be a much better hardware/software (linux) integration. Not sure if there is anybody actually modding that firmware (would be cool to know).
