I'm very short sighted so TVs wouldn't work for me, but I also tend to keep my eyes tight shut in case I see any of the ghastly instruments being used! [During the bone graft I did open my eyes briefly and saw a small for clearly identifiable circular saw].

Once you get down to bone, especially larger ones, parts of the surgery turns into masonry and carpentry. Including the tools. Power drills are valid tools in joint replacements or fracture stabilization.
