Jimmy Cliff has died
- MontgomeryPy 11mo agoRIP Jimmy. ...one of the rare cases of a cover song being better than original imo. I Can See Clearly Now at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MrHxhQPOO2c https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MrHxhQPOO2c
- PopAlongKid 11mo agoDisagree, in the U.S. the original by Johnny Nash reached number 1 on the Billboard chart while the cover version by Cliff only reached #18. While chart position is not the ultimate determination of "better", I also personally have always liked the Nash version, I didn't even know Cliff did a cover until today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Can_See_Clearly_Now https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Can_See_Clearly_Now

- djohnston 11mo agoAh The Harder They Come was such a sick film, though regrettably one of the only Caribbean films I’ve seen. Anyone have recs?
- johng 11mo agoTo this day, this is still my favorite Jimmy Cliff song. I heard it off the Steven Segal movie soundtrack for "Marked for Death" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WZY1cEecbI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WZY1cEecbI
