This is a scary time for American citizens. At least the non-citizens typically still have a backup home abroad, whereas the citizens have everything invested domestically. It's still just the first year of the presidency.
- collingreen 1y agoThe real fear is that this is the first year of something much worse than a presidency.
- zem 1y agohaving a backup home abroad does you no good if you are trafficked to a labour camp in some random hellhole country
- IAmBroom 1y agoYes, you can imagine bad things.
- Volundr 1y agoI mean we watched those things happen already. The whole CECOT thing was just a few months ago.
- OutOfHere 1y agoWhich US citizen got shipped to CECOT?
- Volundr 1y agoNone. But the thread isn't about US citizens, so I'm not sure why you'd ask.

- Volundr 1y agoOriginal comment, written by you! > ... At least the non-citizens typically still have a backup home abroad. Next reply: > having a backup home abroad does you no good if you are trafficked to a labour camp in some random hellhole country Then the comment I replied to: > Yes, you can imagine bad things. (Implying this fear is unfounded) Yeah man, I can read. We're very clearly talking about non-citizens. Your original comment did ALSO mention US citizens, but since we are talking about people with a "backup home abroad" the reply is clearly referencing the non-citizens in your original comment.
- OutOfHere 1y agoRight, but the concern was expressed primarily for citizens, less so for non-citizens. You read the words but missed the point.
- Volundr 1y agoYou missed the point that we are clearly talking about how having backup in your home country doesn't help if the US ships you off to some random prison in another country. If your only concerned about US citizens I guess that's up to you, but the conversation had very clearly moved past that.
- cmxch 1y agoAs a citizen, not really scared at all. Actually relieved. I’d rather have aggressive enforcement than lax enforcement.
- OutOfHere 1y agoAggressive enforcement of what exactly? Of picking targeted citizens up from the street without a court order to arrest them? Because that's what's happening. It's not enforcement; it's lawlessness and kidnapping. It's what the Nazis did - they made citizens disappear.
