There are (older) OSes where this is NOT the case. Leaving things un-freed would leak memory after the application has terminated.
- loeg 11mo agoSure, like prior to the invention of virtual memory. But those days are in the distant past.
- kerkeslager 10mo agoSure. And the rare programmer reading this who is still using that OS knows they're the exception to the rule. To everyone else that fact is irrelevant.
- binaryturtle 10mo agoIt still matters when you try to keep your components truly portable (aka you're not just targeting the big 3).
