The meaning of political terms are always shifting. The mainstream political beliefs within either political party circa the 1990s were in stark conflict with what they are today. The gulf between the 1960s and the 1990s is just as big. To minimize confusion, unless I say otherwise, I try to use political terms in accord with how they are generally used today.
