For people that use the phone a lot, and need something that just works, this isn't true. My parents use their home phone quite a bit, and the $25/month they pay for it is worth it. I'd set them up with voip to save money, but I have tried voip setups, and even with qos I haven't been impressed with the audio quality when other people are on the internet.
